In our age the individual is reduced to an indifferent component of production process and
to a dull and shallow consumer. The fact that individuals are unable to form an organic unity with their environment leads to isolation of them in a mechanical life where individuals are deprived of the feelings of pleasure and excitement. The melancholic and pessimistic affect of modern spaces forces human beings to question their own nature. Modern spaces with the feeling of crowdedness they create represent individuals’ cruel indifference and numb selflessness. Modern spaces obliterate individuals’ lively feelings. Abounded spaces, on the other hand, while representing a past life with its expressions, make one wonder about the meaning of obliteration. Spaces with historical continuity and uniqueness reflect the momentary singularity of the feelings extending to the “past”. As the spaces differentiate, the feelings affected by them also diversify. However, what is being lived in our time is the depreciation of the diversification and thus the loss of the sanctity of ‘times’.
